Kids Knitting Project
Knitted Flowers

Kids knitting doesn't get any easier than this.
Knit these flowers for a great effect...

Knitted Flowers project

These pretty flowers are really simple to make as the petals are just small, plain knitted rectangles gathered up and stitched together to create the flower shape.

And only small oddments of yarn are needed too!

  1. Choose some yarn, cast on 5 stitches and knit (garter stitch) until your work measures 5cm (2inches) long.

  2. Cast off and gather up one long side with a few simple running stitches to make the first petal.

  3. Make another 2 petals in the same way.

  4. Fasten off all the ends of yarn except one and then use this to stitch the 3 gathered edges of the petals together to form a flower.

  5. Sew a button into the centre of the flower or, alternatively, embroider a few satin stitches in the centre with a contrasting colour of yarn. Finish by taking the yarn through to the back of the flower.

  6. Cut a 15cm (6 inches) length of green pipe cleaner or chenille stem and sew one end in place at the centre back of the flower to form the stem.

  7. Make as many flowers as you like! Why not create a bouquet?
