Honeycomb Chick

Here's another Easter crafts for children project.

You will need:

  • Yellow honeycomb paper
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Small scrap of orange card
  • Yellow pipe cleaners
  • Yellow yarn and a sewing needle
  • Scissors and a pair of compasses (optional)
  • Scrap paper for semicircle templates (if needed)
  • Double-sided adhesive tape

  1. To make the chick's body: Cut an 8cm diameter semicircle from yellow honeycomb paper and open out into a sphere to form the chick's body. Secure the ends with double-sided tape.

  2. To make the chick's head: Cut a 6cm diameter semicircle from yellow honeycomb paper and open out into a sphere to form the chick's head. Before securing the ends with double-sided tape as for the body, cut a 30cm length of yellow yarn and secure one end inside the join of the chick’s head.

  3. Using the sewing needle, thread the other end of the yarn down through the centre of the chick's body to start to join the head and body together. Set aside while you make the chick's legs.

  4. To make the chick’s legs: Cut 2 x 10cm lengths of yellow pipe cleaners. Twist together and then open out the 2 ends to form 2 feet each with 2 toes. Bend the twisted pipe cleaners in the centre to form the 2 legs.

  5. Place the legs underneath the body and wind the yarn around the centre of the pipe cleaners several times then, using the sewing needle, secure with a few stitches into the pipe cleaner. Trim off the excess yarn.

  6. To make the chick’s beak: Fold a 3cm x 1.5cm rectangle of orange card in half and cut into a point to form a beak. Open out and glue or tape into place in one of the openings in the honeycomb.

  7. Add wiggly eyes and you’re done!
